Nigerian authorities have set eight months deadline to put an end to rampant oil theft by increasing drone and naval monitoring of territorial waters and working with local communities, the state oil company chief said on Tuesday.
The Niger delta oil rich community has been plagued by oil theft for years that has left the region heavily polluted and prompted foreign oil companies to leave.



FORMER CHAD'S PRESIDENT TRIAL DUE TO RESUME

The war crimes trial of Chad's former president Hissane Habre is due to resume in Senegal's capital Dakar.
Mr. Habre was accused of ordering the killing of 40,000 people during the eight years he ruled his impoverished central African nation., the charges which he denies.
The court adjourned in July after Mr Habre and his lawyers refused to speak to the judge. The trial marks the first that a court in one country has prosecuted the former leader of another on right charges.
